Dr Nigel Salter retires from Carbon ThreeSixty, the specialist light-weighting and advanced composites manufacturer. Nigel has served as a Board Advisor since August 2017, playing a pivotal role in the company’s strategic technical development and growth over the past eight years.
A highly respected figure in the engineering community, Nigel brought a wealth of expertise in technology, growth-at-pace, and commercial strategy to Carbon ThreeSixty. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, his guidance has been instrumental in shaping the company’s approach to complex composite design and manufacturing challenges. As a long-standing and successful member of the UK hard tech community, particularly in advanced materials, Nigel has offered exceptional guidance, insight, and mentoring to the board and technical teams alike.
Nigel’s professional background is rooted in high-level engineering and technology transfer. Prior to his tenure with Carbon ThreeSixty, he served as the Managing Director of 2-D Tech, where he led the development and commercialisation of graphene applications. His extensive experience also included a significant period as Operations and NPD Director at Oxford Instruments, where he oversaw the development of advanced instrumentation technologies.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Nigel is a founder member of the Bessemer Society, a forum for leaders of manufacturing and technology companies. His qualifications — holding a BSc and PhD, and standing as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) — underscore the depth of technical rigour he brought to the Carbon ThreeSixty boardroom.
During his time with the company, Carbon ThreeSixty has evolved into a leading partner for the aerospace, automotive, and defence sectors, known for its expertise in processes such as Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) and Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP).
The Board and the entire team at Carbon ThreeSixty wish to express their sincere gratitude to Nigel for his years of service and wish him the very best for his retirement.
