Carbon ThreeSixty, the structural composites specialist, are delighted to announce that the UK’s Intellectual Property Office have granted the company a patent (GB2575889A) on a novel and disruptive architecture for lightweight bolt-less runflat and beadlock wheels.
The design, codename LPRB, provides lightweight fighting and support vehicles with runflat and beadlock functionality whilst also enabling a reduction in gross vehicle weight. By incorporating a runflat element, it is also possible to remove the need for the vehicle to carry a spare wheel assembly.
The combined runflat and beadlock features ensure that during loss of tyre pressure the vehicle remains operational with minimal impact on performance.
The patent’s unique interlocking feature means that tyres can be changed using standard equipment with no specialist tools or machines required. The system is being further developed to work on a range of vehicles from single operator ATVs to multi-role vehicles with a 20” wheel size. It also has the potential to be adapted for the armoured/VIP vehicle market.
