Chippenham, UK; 26 October 2022. Carbon ThreeSixty (CTS), the lightweighting and advanced composite structures specialist, are pleased to announce the recent investment of an in-house compression moulding facility. The new press – manufactured by Langzauner – has a maximum load of 400 Tonnes, heated platens and an active working area of up to 1.6m x 0.7m.
The addition of a Langzauner press will enable Carbon ThreeSixty to pursue higher pressure mouldings and lower Takt times in upcoming production projects. The press will support ongoing R&D projects in the Aerospace, Automotive, Energy and Defence sectors.
The investment also signals Carbon ThreeSixty’s desire to pursue a broader range of materials including thermoplastics and in particular co-mingled fibre preforms generated by Technical Fibre Placement (TFP) processes. CTS has recently completed several feasibility studies looking into the use of thermoplastic materials , concluding that the time is right to invest in relevant production technologies.
Patrick Willoughby, Production Technology Consultant at Carbon ThreeSixty, commented: “As we continue with the realisation of our materials and technology roadmaps, investment in new equipment is critical. It show’s our appetite to innovate and desire to remain at the forefront of low cost, automated manufacturing in our sector. Our customers rely on us to shine a light on the ever increasing possibilities of well engineered composite structures and products”
