Accelerating Next-Gen Wing Innovations through Noodle & Deltoid supply as Part of £12M ASPIRE Aerospace Programme
CHIPPENHAM, UK — Carbon ThreeSixty, a specialist in the design and manufacture of advanced composite structures, is highlighting its commercial supply capability for composite deltoid fillers (“noodles”) and tailored fibre placement (TFP) components following its key role in the UK’s £12 million ASPIRE (Advanced Structural Product Integrated Airframe) R&D initiative.
Led by GKN Aerospace and co-funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), the ASPIRE programme targets next-generation composite wing and flap manufacturing technologies to deliver lighter, more sustainable aircraft structures for commercial aviation.
As reported by CompositesWorld, the ASPIRE project incorporates cutting-edge material and process innovations across multiple wingtip variants and flap assemblies to achieve high-rate, low-carbon aero structure manufacturing.
Pioneering Sustainable Stitched Noodles & Tailored Fibre Preforms
Within the ASPIRE consortium, Carbon ThreeSixty is driving key developments in internal gap fillers and structural reinforcement:
-
Stitched Deltoid Noodles: Utilising recycled carbon fibres aligned via Lineat’s AFFT process, Carbon ThreeSixty is manufacturing stitched dry-fibre deltoid preforms for advanced wingtip variants. These structural fillers fill radius gaps (such as T-joints and stiffener junctions), mitigating delamination and ensuring optimal load transfer while drastically lowering raw material waste.
-
Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP) Brackets: For the ASPIRE optimised composite flap demonstrator, Carbon ThreeSixty is delivering TFP structural brackets, leveraging automated, highly precise fibre placement to meet stringent weight and structural performance targets for single-aisle aircraft.
Open for Business: Aerospace Deltoid Fillers and Custom Noodle Solutions
Building on the technology matured through the ASPIRE programme, Carbon ThreeSixty is officially open for business to support Tier-1 aerospace suppliers, OEMs, and emerging Advanced Air Mobility (AAM/eVTOL) developers with custom composite noodle and deltoid filler manufacturing.
Whether requirement specifications demand dry-fibre preforms, stitched recycled-carbon preforms, traditional pre-preg deltoids, or custom TFP preforms, Carbon ThreeSixty provides complete end-to-end capabilities—from engineering design and stress analysis to series volume production.
Key Commercial Filler Capabilities:
-
Custom Cross-Sectional Geometries: Precise radius and void-filling shapes engineered for tight-tolerance aerospace joint interfaces.
-
Flexible Process Integration: Preforms optimised for Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM/SmaRTM), vacuum infusion, or automated deposition lines.
-
Sustainable & Circular Material Options: Integration of aligned recycled carbon fibre preforms to help aerospace clients meet sustainability targets without sacrificing mechanical strength.
-
High-Rate Scalability: Agile manufacturing workflows designed to support high-rate commercial aerospace ramps.
